Dưa leo rửa sạch, ngâm với chút muối trắng tầm 10 phút rồi vớt ra để ráo nước, sau đó bổ đôi, nạo hết phần ruột bên trong. Thái dưa leo thành những miếng mỏng đều nhau. Khóm bỏ phần lõi rồi thái lát mỏng.
Húng quế nhặt lấy lá, bỏ thân rồi rửa sạch, ngâm nước muổi, để thật ráo, thái nhỏ. Ớt thái nhỏ, tỏi lột vỏ bào mỏng, tắc cắt ra để sẵn. Đậu phộng rang chín, xát vỏ, bạn có thể đem vào túi nilon buộc kín rồi đập sơ.
Cho phần dưa leo và khóm vào tô sạch, cho tiếp phần ớt, tỏi vào, thêm 2 muỗng canh nước mắm, 1 muỗng canh đường, 1/2 muỗng cà phê bột ngọt, vắt tắc ra muỗng để bỏ hạt rồi cho vào tô. Tất cả các nguyên liệu trộn đều lên. Để ngấm tầm 5 phút thì cho rau húng vào lại trộn đều lần nữa. Có thể nêm lại gia vị theo sở thích của mọi người.
